A Healthy Hub in Downtown Scranton
On trips to New York and Philly, Sam Parlopiano Jr. noticed that the trendy salad chains always had crowds lined up to the door. Why not bring the same convenient, healthy options to the Electric City? In March 2020, Sam and his family (who also own Samario’s Pizza & Restaurant) opened The Salad Shop on Penn Ave. This salad joint combines big-city flavor with a local, family-run feel.
Salad goes way beyond lettuce and croutons here. The Salad Shop has over 70 toppings and 30 dressings so you can build your own bowl. Veggies, fruits, nuts, cheese, proteins, you name it—these salads are enormous and filled to the brim. Seriously, good luck getting through the whole thing in one sitting.
If you’re not sure where to start, check out the combos on their signature menu. The Salad Shop shows their local pride with names like the North Washington Ave (a twist on a traditional Cobb) and the Electric City (a classic chicken Caesar).
Another top choice is the Mulberry Street. This salad has a Southwestern spin with cheddar jack cheese, taco beef, black beans, tortilla strips and bell peppers drizzled with a creamy Sriracha ranch. The Penn Ave will bring out your inner foodie with a sweet, refreshing blend of greens, goat cheese, apples, craisins, walnuts, beets, cucumbers and apple cider vinaigrette.
And if you’re not a salad person, no worries. The Salad Shop also makes customizable wraps and homemade soups.
The Salad Shop is located at 316 Penn Avenue in Scranton. They’re currently open for in-house dining and takeout. Online ordering is available. They also deliver to local businesses.
