A cool, clear stream provides the soundtrack at this picturesque preserve in White Haven. The Harry and Mary Goeringer Preserve is a protected, 390-acre oak heath forest. The Preserve is maintained and protected by The Nature Conservancy. It sits on the south end of a wide swath of land dedicated to state forests, game lands and other preserved holdings.

The preserve features a 2.5-mile trail that carries you past a pristine lake and a beautiful mountain stream. The trail provides for excellent wildlife viewing. You can explore vernal pools teeming with frogs and salamanders. Wright Creek, which flows through the preserve, holds quite a few finicky, wild brook trout. Dense oak scrubs and forests along the trail are home to scarlet tanagers, hermit thrush and rose breasted grosbeak. And you’ll often find chipmunks rustling up some feed on the forest floor.

The Harry and Mary Goeringer Preserve offers an easily accessible escape to nature. The preserve is open for fishing and hunting. It’s a popular stop among birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. And the nature trail proves popular among even the youngest hikers.
