A Day For Doing Good

The holiday season is in full swing. And with that comes lots of shopping and spending. But it’s also a time for reflection and looking ahead to a fresh start. If you’ve ever thought of doing something a little more meaningful this time of year, Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity.

Since 2012, the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is recognized as the official day to contribute to charities. On November 28, you can do your part by donating to a good cause. While monetary gifts are the goal on Giving Tuesday, you can also donate your time and talents in the future. Sign up to be a volunteer. Participate in an online fundraiser. Organize a supply drive. There are so many ways to give back now and all year round.

We know that NEPA’s local charities and nonprofits have been working tirelessly supporting our communities day in and day out. Now it’s time to pay it forward. Lend a hand and a dollar. And join a global movement for good that inspires kindness and generosity.

If you’re motivated to give back but aren’t sure where to begin, check out our featured nonprofits below. You can also browse through our Support a Cause directory, which lists over 1,000 incredible charities, nonprofits and volunteer organizations in NEPA.

Give Back to a Neighbor

Our communities need us now more than ever.

NEPA’s community-based nonprofits and charities are on the frontlines year round. Food banks, pantries and soup kitchens have been busier than ever making sure no one goes hungry during these strained economic times. Other organizations are providing essential supplies to those in need or caring for those in our communities who are most vulnerable. Your support ensures that families across NEPA can enjoy a happy, healthy holiday season and year ahead.

Build Brighter Futures

Kids need a place to grow, play and learn.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. We say it takes a whole region. NEPA’s nonprofits put kids on the path to success by driving education, providing support systems and reaching out to children in need. They tackle the challenges so our children can learn, be happy and thrive.

Live Healthy

NEPA’s health-related charities, community centers and sports programs keep us feeling our best.

These nonprofits are on the leading-edge of health, whether they’re encouraging us to follow healthy lifestyles or helping us when we’re facing our biggest battles. Some nonprofits support patients, fund lifesaving research and provide crucial care to those in need. Others provide safe, supportive community spaces where all ages can stay fit and have fun.

Lend a Paw

Become an advocate for animals.

From dogs to cats to farm animals, our four-legged friends can’t speak up for themselves. That’s why they need us to be their voice. NEPA’s local animal shelters and rescue groups do all they can to take in hurt and homeless animals, but it still takes plenty of donations, supplies and volunteers to keep the facilities running.

Be a Trailblazer

Protect NEPA’s natural beauty and forge the way to a green future.

The rolling mountains, tranquil forests and mighty rivers are some of NEPA’s greatest treasures. Luckily, our environmental organizations, trail groups and nature preserves are here to protect the land for generations to come. Do your part for the planet and encourage others to explore the great outdoors.

Keep the Arts Alive

Safeguarding the spaces where creative expression and storytelling intersect.

“The arts” are more than paintings in a museum. They are dancers, writers, photographers, musicians, filmmakers, poets,  sculptures and yes, painters. NEPA is full of visual arts programs and centers – libraries, historic sites, museums, theaters and studios – that not only entertain but also educate people of all ages.
