5th Annual Scranton Fringe Festival

Posted: September 25, 2019
A Celebration of Community and the Performing Arts
Northeastern Pennsylvania’s arts scene takes center stage in the Electric City.
Since 2015, The Scranton Fringe Festival has provided a most welcoming environment for unique and often overlooked performance art. This year marks the fifth iteration of this wildly popular celebration of theater, dance, comedy, music and so much more. Fringe, as it is more affectionately known, takes place at over a dozen venues throughout Scranton. The festival begins on Friday, September 27, and continues through Sunday, October 6.
Risk takers, provocateurs and performers of every form imaginable
The Scranton Fringe Festival aims to celebrate both the local and regional creative community. Artists are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to present their work in a supportive space free of content censorship. Scranton Fringe takes great care to honor the long, storied history of fringe festivals around the world. At the same time, this NEPA-specific event adds its own unique twist. Local playwrights, choreographers, actors, comedians and musicians all have a hand in the festival’s performances. And for good measure, a few nationally-recognized artists also take part.
You’ll find just about everything at Fringe. From drag shows and musical comedies to children’s theater and engaging drama, there are performances for every sensibility. You can even catch professional improv acts, inspired dance performances and thought-provoking visual artists.
And when the lights go down, Fringe comes alive. Don’t miss incredible, late night events like a cabaret, silent disco and an interactive game show to name just a few. The festival also hosts workshops throughout the week for artists looking to hone their craft.
It’s happening all around you.
Aside from live performances, workshops and social events, you’ll find elements of the festival all throughout town. Many local restaurants, bars, cafes and shops have partnered with Fringe to create the popular Fringe Button.
The $5 button is required at every performance (along with tickets). Not only is it a cool piece of festival swag, the Fringe Button also grants you access to incredible discounts at local businesses.
