Bring the Heat this June with 5Ks, Festivals & Outdoor Summer Fun All Month Long
It might be safe to finally say “It’s summer!” After May teased us with a warm day here and there, June is really bringing the heat (and we think it’s here to stay). In NEPA, summer means getting outside, dining on decks & patios, catching live entertainment and, most importantly, staying cool.

Strawberry Festival
June 1 – 4, 8 – 11, 15 – 18, 22 – 25
Kick off summer with the sweet taste of strawberries at Lakeland Orchard & Cidery. The 3rd Annual Strawberry Festival has no shortage of strawberry treats and fun summertime activities. And, of course, pick your own to take home.

Party on the Patio
June 1, 8, 15 , 22 & 29
Weekends begin on Thursdays in NEPA when Mohegan’s Party on the Patio returns for the season. Get together with friends and party it up all summer long. This month’s acts include tributes to the Bee Gees, Van Halen, AC/DC, Foo Fighters and Elton John.

Lackawanna County Heritage Fair
June 1 – 4
It’s simply not summer without a good, old-fashioned county fair. The first weekend of June, the Lackawanna County Heritage Fair takes over Montage Mountain with classic rides, games and, of course, all your favorite fair foods.

Big Day Out - Hike, Bike & Raft
June 3 & 17
After being trapped inside for a few months, it’s no surprise we want to pack in all the outdoor fun this month. Pocono Whitewater makes it possible with their Big Day Out. Spend a full day rafting, hiking and biking on and along the Lehigh River.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders
June 6 – 11 & 20 – 25
With games against the Norfolk Tides and the Buffalo Bisons, June is one of the best times to hang out at PNC Field. Warm nights at the ballpark are the perfect excuse to enjoy a cold beer or a soft-serve helmet as you cheer on the RailRiders.

Edwardsville Pierogi Festival
June 9 & 10
There is nothing more NEPA than a pierogi festival. At the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival you can spend two full days taste testing some of the area’s best Polish dumplings. If you need a break, there are plenty of non-pierogi food vendors and live entertainment.

Bike Train
June 10 & 11
Enjoy a relaxing 25-mile train ride through Lehigh Gorge before taking a leisurely bike ride back to Jim Thorpe on the Rail Trail. You’ll pass canal remnants, swimming holes, scenic overlooks and railroad trestles, so bring your camera along for the ride.

NEPA Yoga Festival
June 10 & 11
Montage Mountain brings yogis of all experience and skill levels together to celebrate movement and meditation at the 10th NEPA Yoga Festival. Featuring yoga & meditation sessions, live music, wellness talks and hiking excursions, there are activities for everyone from beginners to the most advanced.

Tuscarora State Park Summer Festival
June 10
Tuscarora State Park hosts a whole afternoon of summer fun, including pie baking contests, wildlife presentations, boat races and more.

1964 The Tribute
June 10
When this band hits the F.M. Kirby Center stage, you’ll experience Beatlemania like you were actually there. Catch world-renowned 1964: The Tribute for an evening of singing and dancing to all your favorite Fab Four hits.

Camelbeach Opening Weekend
June 16 – 18
Slides replace the slopes as Camelbeach returns bigger and better than ever for their 25th season. Opening weekend is especially exciting with live music, a flow rider competition, the introduction of new slides and more summer fun.

Fully Loaded Comedy Festival
June 16
Some of the best comedians in the business hit the road this summer. The Fully Loaded Festival brings comedy to outdoor stadiums and amphiteaters around the country, including PNC Field, for an evening of side-splitting laughs.

Fishing Derby and Cornhole Tournament
June 17
What better way to spend Father’s Day weekend than with a bit of fishing and friendly cornhole competition? Lake Genero hosts their first ever Fishing Derby and Cornhole Tournament, complete with camping, boat rentals and prizes for big winners.

Hometown Heroes 5K Walk & Run
June 17
Honor local first responders and veterans with a 5K run & walk at Kirby Park. Hometown Heroes benefits Camp Freedom and CASA of Luzerne County.

Patchtown Festival
June 17
Celebrate NEPA’s anthracite heritage at Eckley Miners’ Village. The Patchtown Festival honors Northeastern Pennsylvania’s rich past with the help of local historians. Grab some delicious food, with everything from Mexican to Polish cuisines, and enjoy plenty of music.

2nd Annual Juneteenth Cookout
June 17
Spend an afternoon celebrating community at the Wilkes-Barre NAACP’s 2nd Annual Juneteenth Cookout. Check out local vendors and businesses, hang out with neighbors and catch live music at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.

Wyoming Valley RiverFest
June 23 – 25
It’s a celebration of the Susquehanna at Wyoming Valley RiverFest. Spend a weekend at Nesbitt Park enjoying live entertainment, a 5K Color Run/Walk, a children’s scavenger hunt, and plenty of chances to explore the river on guided kayak & canoe tours and nature walks.

Tour of Back Mountain Gardens
June 24
Spend a Saturday strolling the gardens of Back Mountain. For the 10th year, the Back Mountain Bloomers Garden Club takes guests on a tour of five private gardens in the Dallas area. Master gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and give educational presentations.

Mainline 5K
June 25
Tackle Montage Mountain in a 5K test of your toughness in the first part of the Black Diamond Running Series. Incredible views and free admission to Montage Mountain Waterpark make the challenge well worth it. You can complete this race on its own, or finish the job with the 8K race in late July.

Summer Fest
June 29 & 30
Even as June comes to an end, summer is just heating up. Lakeland Orchard & Cidery breaks out all the stops at Summer Fest. Between live music and lumberjack shows, local wineries and breweries and attractions for the kids, the whole family can get in on the fun.
