Celebrate This December with Live Shows, Local Markets, Winter Fests & a Whole Lot of Holiday Fun

A dusting of snow, the glow of Christmas lights and the aroma of fresh-baked cookies in the air can only mean one thing… it’s the holiday season! December is upon us, and it’s finally time to deck the halls, trim the tree and wrap the presents. And of course, it’s simply a tradition to hit up all the Christmas festivals, holiday shows, craft fairs and other NEPA traditions.

Leave the crowds behind and shop local at our adorable boutiques. Stroll through the streets of NEPA’s charming small towns, or embrace the frosty mornings for a brisk, snowy hike. And in the spirit of giving, you can always kindle a little holiday joy by volunteering with one of our local nonprofits.

We’ve got all the cozy vibes, from warming up at cute coffee shops to seeing the sights on historic train rides. Colder days and longer nights are prime time to head to the theater for live shows and concerts. And don’t worry about cooking when our incredible restaurants have you covered.

    All Month Long

    All is merry and bright at Stone Hedge Golf Course in Tunkhannock, where they’re hosting their annual drive-thru Christmas light display. Take a 2.5-mile ride through the grounds, then visit the pavilion for food, drinks, vendors, s’mores and photo ops.

    All Month Long

    Knoebels Amusement Resort has decked out the park for their second annual Christmas light display. Drive through the grounds to see this winter wonderland, then visit the Christmas Village for food, photos, shopping and more.

  • Toys for Tots Open Skate

    December 2

    Hit the ice for a good cause at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre. This is the one day a year that they open up the rink for public skating. Just bring a new, unwrapped toy or make a $5 donation to Toys for Tots to join.

    December 2-5

    A little slice of Broadway is coming to the Scranton Cultural Center. This hilarious and heartwarming musical follows the story of Jenna, a waitress and pie baker looking for a change in life (and a little romance too).

  • George Thorogood & The Destroyers: Good to Be Bad Tour

    December 2

    George Thorogood will rock the night away at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe. This concert is part of the legendary band’s 45th anniversary tour.

    The West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert will be very merry with a walk-through light display, photo ops, food, visits from Santa, craft vendors and more. This outdoor festival will also have live music and bonfires.

    Historic Hawley is celebrating the holidays with live music, artisan fairs, horse and carriage rides, tours and other festivities all around town. Wander through the downtown streets and check out specials at the local shops and restaurants.

  • Santa on the Trolley

    Every Weekend December 4-19

    Bring the kids to the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton to meet the Big Guy himself. Take a ride with Santa, then stop by the museum for sing-alongs, stories and other fun activities. Reservations are required.

  • Black Forest Krampusnacht

    December 4

    Visit Kemmerer Park in Jim Thorpe for the first-ever Krampus Festival (just make sure you were good this year… or else). The celebration includes a beer garden, live polka band, local vendors, food and activities for the kids. The night closes with the “Running of the Krampus” ceremony.

    December 4 & 5

    Celebrate Christmas the old-fashioned way at Eckley Miners’ Village in Weatherly. Listen to the carolers, visit with St. Nick and learn about NEPA’s rich history. They’ll also have basket raffles, kids’ activities, craft vendors and food.

  • La Festa Natale Pittston

    December 4

    The city of Pittston is getting very merry with a whole day of festivities. There will be events throughout downtown, including a tree lighting, a toy truck parade, visits with Santa, music and a holiday market at the Pittston Memorial Library.

    December 4-5 & December 11-12

    Christmas traditions will come to life at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in Stroudsburg. Take a candlelit tour through the grounds of this 1800s farm, visit the living nativity in the barn, gather around the bonfire and enjoy activities for the whole family.

    The JCC of Scranton is hosting the Steven Bruce Arenberg Memorial Chanukah Street Festival, a free celebration for the whole family. The entire community is invited for music, food, children’s activities and so much more.
