Keep the Summer Fun Going this August with Live Music, Festival Food and Plenty of Outdoor Fun
By the time August rolls around in NEPA, we’re all in a mad dash to squeeze every last bit of fun out of summer. We’re loading up the camping gear, heading out on the trails and taking on the whitewater. The kids are cramming in a few last rides on the Phoenix and planning their post-park ice cream adventures. And the grown-ups are looking for ways to schedule one last trip along the wine trail.
No matter how you’re looking to close out your summer, NEPA’s got it covered. Snag a patio table at your favorite local restaurant. Fill your basket at the farmer’s market. Hang out in that potato pancake line. Hit the links or the lake or the local pool for a lazy day in the sun. There are so many things to do in NEPA, even with all of this, we’re only scratching the surface.

Make your way any number of NEPA county fairs this month for tasty fair food, midway rides, carnival games, live animal exhibits, live entertainment and so much more. Check out our list of awesome upcoming county fairs throughout NEPA.

Kids and Kayaks
August 2, 9 & 16
Bring the kids out to Frances Slocum State Park for a fun day on the water with Susquehanna Kayak and Canoe Rentals. The event is open to children from ages 10-12 and features an instructional kayak lesson and a $5 lunch coupon at the pool snack bar.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders
August 2-7, 9-14, 30 & 31
Get to PNC Field on Montage Mountain for three home stretches in August. This month, The RailRiders will take on the Buffalo Bisons, the Worcester Red Sox and the Syracuse Mets. And don’t miss the fireworks after Friday night games.

Check out some of NEPA’s most well-known musicians and bands every Wednesday in August by the lake at Hillside Park in South Abington Twp. Bring your own picnic setup, or stop by one of the many local vendors.

Enjoy NEPA’s largest free summer concert series all month long with four, Thursday night performances from exciting tribute bands. Gather trackside at Mohegan Sun Pocono for great music, dancing, food & drink.

Arts in the Park First Friday
August 5
Make your way to Can DO Community Park in Downtown Hazleton for this First Friday community celebration of the arts. The family-friendly event features music from a live DJ, Zumba classes, a bounce house, food from Downtown Hazleton restaurants, games and much more.

Hop on, Hop Off Wine Tour
August 5
Tour five of the Pocono’s most exciting, local wineries via trolley. The loop runs continuous between four wineries and a distillery in the Stroudsburg area and allows riders to hop on and off at their leisure. The tour begins at the Fairbridge Hotel.

Scranton Bike Weekend
August 5, 6 & 7
Stop by the Viewmont Mall in Scranton a full weekend of motorcycles, live entertainment, car shows, plenty of food, family activities and so much more. The first ever event will benefit Keystone Mission.

Follow your nose to Plymouth for this 2-day celebration of NEPA’s favorite Polish delicacy. The event features 80 vendors, live music, games, children’s activities and the famous kielbasa contest to name NEPA’s “Best of the Best.”

One Day Paddles and Battles
August 13
Lock in two incredible outdoor adventures at one great rate! Start with an adrenaline-pumping rafting trip in the morning with Pocono Whitewater. Then head to the paintball fields at Skirmish for an epic nighttime battle on their award-winning paintball maps.

August 18 – 21
Swing by Downtown Pittston for this traditional August foodie festival featuring an annual 5K Run/Walk, a parade, delicious Italian food, live entertainment, games and more. The festival runs from Thursday through Sunday.

SPCA of Luzerne County Designer Purse Bingo
August 21
Snag a spot at The Woodlands in Wilkes-Barre for an afternoon of fun, food, prize baskets, amazing purses and, of course, Bingo! The fundraising event features an Italian luncheon, assorted beverages, a cash bar, basket raffles and a 50/50 drawing.

Spend the waning days of summer celebrating lake life in NEPA at this popular annual festival that takes place on and around Lake Wallenpaupack. Festivities include live music, a boat show, vendor fairs, local food and drink and over 60 events.

Hazleton Rotary Wine & Beer Festival
August 27
Stop by Louis Schiavo City View Park in Hazleton for an afternoon of local wine and over 50 craft beers. The event also includes live music, vendors and plenty of food. Tickets can be purchased in advance at a discount.

Electric City Classic Criterium
August 27
Find a spot in Downtown Scranton to cheer on daring cyclists from all over the U.S. in this high-speed short circuit criterium. The day is split between amateur and professional races and the rest of the weekend also features the famous Electric City Hill Sprints and the 1-Mile Dash.
